Getting to Know Caritas of Waco

Michael “Mike” Kunka is a student at Midway High School in Waco, Texas. In addition to his academic and extracurricular activities at school, he is also actively involved with his community. One of the organizations Michael Kunka is involved with is Caritas of Waco.

Caritas of Waco is a non-profit charity organization that has been set up to fight poverty and provide food for the needy. The organization has been active for more than 50 years and relies on volunteers to work with its 42 staff members in accomplishing its mission.

Caritas of Waco provides emergency services such as helping out with food, medicine, utility bills, mortgage payments, and other needs like clothing and transportation. To access these services, potential beneficiaries must be interviewed and meet some documentary requirements.

One way of supporting Caritas of Waco is to donate to “Hidden Treasures,” a thrift store chain that is run by the organization. Another Caritas of Waco program is the Case Management Program. The goal of this program is to move a person from a state of being dependent on charity to being independent. This is done through job training and financial education. The program also includes child care and housing assistance.
