Finance Emphasis at WCU

Originally from Texas, Michael “Mike” Kunka is a businessman who founded MAK Lawn Services in Waco. Michael Kunka is also attending Western Colorado University, where he studies finance and wealth management and made the dean’s list in spring 2021.

Headquartered in Gunnison, Colorado, Western Colorado University offers business degrees and allows students to pick an emphasis in other areas, including finance. A finance emphasis can help students prepare for future careers as personal finance advisors or working with stocks and bonds. The emphasis teaches the theory of financial analysis and ways to apply it. Students learn to prepare and interpret financial information and use financial theories to make smart decisions. They also learn how develop and manage security portfolios and consider the risk-reward factors of every financial choice.

Western Colorado University also has an award-winning Rocky Mountain Investment Challenge team and an Innovation + Creativity + Entrepreneurship lab. Many students who graduate with an emphasis in finance go on to work in financial analysis and management as well as accounting and compliance at reputable financial firms.
